Western New York Pop Warner Little Scholars Inc., originally known as “Monroe County Pop Warner”, was founded in 1961 under the umbrella of National Pop Warner.
The inaugural season began in August of 1962, with just four teams and one level of play. The four teams were the Tenth Ward Tigers, Dutchtown Merchants, the Greece Chargers and the Browncroft Browns. Only this one level of play known, as Midget existed until 1967 when the Pee Wee level was formed. Later in the 1970’s the Junior Pee Wee and Mighty Mite levels were added, and in 1979 the Junior Midget levels were added. In 2005 we also added the Flag level of play for the 5-7 year olds.
